A pet cooling mat is a gel-filled pad that cools the moment a dog or cat lies on it and recharges itself once the animal moves off, so it needs no freezing, water, or power. Pet cooling products cool in four ways, all of them passive, with no battery or electronics. Which method fits depends on the product, the animal, and how long the cooling has to last. We advise on the right method at the brief stage.

Pressure-activated gel

A gel pad that cools on contact when the animal lies on it and recharges itself when the animal moves off, with no freezing or water needed. It is used in cooling mats and in gel-panel beds. On a pet product, the gel is sealed in a puncture-resistant layer so it stays contained if scratched or bitten.

Evaporative cooling

Fabric that is wetted and cools the animal as the water evaporates and the product dries, then reactivates with more water. It is used in cooling vests, towels, collars, and horse rugs, and is light, reusable, and simple for an owner to use.

Phase-change material (PCM)

A pack or insert chilled before use that holds a steady, controlled cool temperature for a set period, used in vests and collars where longer, more even cooling than evaporation is wanted. The insert is removable for chilling and replacement.

Water and airflow

Direct cooling through water or air rather than a cooling material: splash pads a dog stands and plays in, freezable chew toys cooled in a freezer, and raised mesh beds that cool by keeping the animal off the ground in moving air.

Mats, toys, splash pads, and worn gear are built to resist chewing, clawing, and puncture, with reinforced seams and durable shells. On gel mats, the gel is sealed in a puncture-resistant layer designed to keep it contained if the surface is bitten or scratched, so it is not exposed to the animal.

Food-safe cooling bowls

Cooling bowls are made from food-grade, food-contact-safe material because they hold drinking water. This is the defining requirement for the bowl, and we can support and arrange food-contact testing for your target market.

Easy to clean and hygienic

Products are made to be wiped or washed, with removable covers or rinse-clean surfaces, so they stay hygienic across a season of use.

Sized for safe fit

Worn products are graded to the breed so they cool without being tight, loose, or restrictive, which is part of keeping a pet product safe as well as effective.
